The Bouf Ingredient Breakdown
When it comes to topical haircare, it makes sense that you’d want to be informed about what ingredients are in the products you put on your scalp.
Bouf’s tech is patented and proprietary so we can’t be handing out the recipe but what we can say is, what IS in Bouf and what definitely isn’t.
Let’s start with what isn’t.
NO parabens: A common preservative that some studies show disrupt fertility, hormones, harm sea life, and show a possible link between them and certain cancers.
NO phthalates: Human-made chemicals originally used to make plastic more malleable. In haircare they’re often used to enhance fragrance. Some studies have shown a link between phthalates and endocrine disruption.
NO sulfates: Usually added to hair care to make the product lather. They can cause irritation or result in acne.
NO silicone: Usually added to create a silky texture and improve spreadability but can clog pores, cause irritation, and hinder the absorption of other, more beneficial, ingredients.
NO phosphates: Primarily used for emulsifying and thickening, they can cause dryness, irritation and contribute to water pollution.
So, what IS in Bouf?
Natural Actives and Antioxidants
SANGUISORBA OFFICINALIS: A hair-hero flower that is commonly found in the fields of Europe. We use an extract taken from the root, which contains a natural active known for its FGF5-inhibiting properties. By targeting the FGF5 protein in the scalp, studies have shown it helps support the hair’s natural growth cycle. When our hair stays in the growth phase for longer, it has more time to mature and become thicker, stronger, and less wispy.
ROSA MULTIFLORA: The Bouf tech extracts this from the hips of the Japanese Tea Rose. Scientists discovered that Japanese Rose Hips contains compounds believed to inhibit FGF5 (or fibroblast growth factor 5) activity. FGF5 is the protein in our hair that triggers the shed phase.
SWERTIA CHIRATA: Traditionally used in Ayurvedic practices, Swertia Chirata is valued in cosmetics for its antioxidant properties. It helps support a calm, balanced scalp and contributes to overall scalp vitality.
BAOBAB: Often referred to as the tree of life, Baobab is a real hydration hero. It’s said to improve hair manageability, help protect against heat styling and instantly condition, improving overall suppleness. Baobab increases hydration, improving strength by 29% and elasticity by 10%.
All of these ingredients can be found in our Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave-In Mask and the three natural actives can be found in the Tonic. Our Shampoo gently cleanses and works to protect against breakage. It’s colour-safe and instantly hydrates while adding another layer of protection to help shield hair from heat and styling damage. Gently distribute through the hair, massaging the lengthening and protective benefits from scalp to ends.
Our conditioner penetrates hair to deeply nourish strands, improve strength and elasticity and prevent split ends and breakage. Apply to the lengths of hair and leave for a minute before rinsing with cool water for extra shine.
This two-step routine adds lift and volume to the roots while also enhancing texture.
Our Leave-In Mask is like having a luxurious, at-home spa treatment. It intensely conditions and, when used weekly, can help increase hair’s elasticity, and prevent breakage and split ends. Use a small amount in the ends of hair when it’s wet or dry and style as usual with no need to rinse. For a more intensive treatment, add a generous amount from root to tip, comb through, and leave for a few hours or overnight before rinsing out. The longer you leave it in, the more intense the hydration.
